Seminar Series a.y. 2024/2025

Seminar series organised by our School

  • The Mauriana Pesaresi seminar series is the seminar series organised and attended by our Ph.D. students. It consists of a series of meetings where one Ph.D. student presents an open research problem and all participants contribute to discussing it. The presenter spends at least half an hour introducing the problem to have at least half an hour for the discussion. To get the credits for this seminar series, each student must attend 80% of the seminars and be the presenter of one of them.
  • Challenges and Perspectives of Formal Methods for Trustworthy Software – Software artifacts are challenging to develop and reason about. Not surprisingly, there have been many efforts in formally specifying, modeling and verifying software artifacts. This seminar series aims at enabling conversations and solutions cutting across the variety of techniques and tools developed by the formal methods communities, leveraging the complementary strengths of these solutions.  We also recognize that formal methods education is an integral component of the dissemination of research ideas for industrial-scale verification projects. Therefore, another important objective of these seminars is to draw up a plan to train and teach relevant formal methods to students. The seminar series will start in March 2025. To participate in the seminars please contact gian-luigi.ferrari@unipi.it or chiara.bodei@unipi.it.
  • Algorithmic Solutions Straight from the Book – This cycle of seminars will describe some masterpieces in Algorithms and Data Structures by exploring eight of the most refined and impactful algorithms in computer science. Each session will dissect an elegant solution to a classic problem, known for its conceptual clarity, optimal performance, and resilience across diverse applications. The series aims to offer PhD students a journey through algorithmic elegance, where each solution is a “proof from the book,” embodying simplicity, efficiency, practical impact, and profound theoretical insight.

Speakers: Alessio Conte, Veronica Guerrini, Nadia Pisanti, Giulia Punzi, Giovanna Rosone, Rossano Venturini, Giorgio Vinciguerra.

Period: The seminars will be held in Spring/Summer 2025.
